THERE is more than $7 million just waiting to be claimed by someone who bought a lottery ticket in Newcastle.

A mystery punter bought the unregistered jackpot lottery ticket at Marketown Newsagency in Newcastle West.

It won $7,175,000 in $2 jackpot lottery 8803 yesterday.

Newsagency owner Cherryl Tuckerman said her shop had been inundated with customers checking their tickets as word spread about the prize.

"The person hasn't come forward yet," Ms Tuckerman said.

"It's an unregistered ticket so we can't contact the winner.

"I can't imagine how the person who holds the winning ticket is going to feel when they find out they have won over $7 million.

"We have sold many first, second and third prize winning tickets in the lottery but this is the biggest by far. I'm glad it's one of our customers who cracked the big one."

The jackpot is won when a ticket which has won a cash prize of any value is reselected in the computerised random number lottery draw.
