Should You Invest A Lottery Win In More Lottery Entries?

Monday November 10, 2008

Many people put small amounts of lottery winnings back into lottery entries. Other people spend it in other ways, but it can be interesting to look at the advantage and disadvantages to putting small lottery winnings back into lottery entries.

For one, the likelihood of winning anything at all on any of the lottery games, such as Thursday Powerball or Wednesday Lotto, is fairly low, let alone winning the major jackpot. Most people will find that the amount they put into lottery entries over their lifetime will be far less than their winnings. This is why it is better to play lotteries for fun rather than for prizes.

As you will rarely win and the overall amount you spend over time is likely to exceed what you win, putting small amounts of winnings back into entries seems quite reasonable. Really, the only way for you to improve chances of a big win is to place a greater number of entries, so this can be considered a method of using smaller wins to improve your chances of a big win, even if only slightly.

Another way to look at it, though, is that winnings come in only so often. You may as well enjoy them by spending them on other things rather than placing more lottery entries that are also unlikely to win.

Both these philosophies on spending winnings have their positives and negatives, but the most important thing is that you are always having fun playing lottery games. Never get to the stage where they place a burden on your life.
