Overview of lottery games

Monday June 30, 2008

Lottery games will generally share a lot in common, but a few have differences that make them a very different experience to play as well as changing the odds of a win.

These three lottery games each have a difference in the odds of winning, as well as differences in division structure and occasionally differences in draw.

Saturday and Wednesday lotto

Both Saturday and Wednesday lotto follow the same rules. In each of these lottery games you must place an entry with a choice of 6 numbers from a possible 45 numbers. The draw is taken from 45 numbers, with 6 winning numbers and 2 supplementary numbers drawn. There are five prize divisions with the lowest division requiring 3 winning numbers plus a supplementary number and the highest division requires all 6 winning numbers on the lottery entry.

Thursday Powerball lottery

The Thursday Powerball lottery is quite unique compared to other lottery draws in that it technically consists of two separate draws. A player of the Powerball lottery must choose 5 from 45 numbers for the main draw, while additionally choosing a single Powerball number from 45 numbers. This Powerball number may be the same as a number contained in the main 5.

There are seven prize divisions, and most divisions require the Powerball to win a prize except for the seventh division and the second division. This lottery is very popular and frequently results in some of the highest lottery jackpots in Australia.

Tuesday Oz Lotto

The Tuesday Oz Lotto is a lottery that is quite similar to the Saturday Lotto and Wednesday Lotto, but it requires a larger entry and thus has more prize divisions. An entry requires 7 of 45 numbers be chosen by the player, and the draw consists of 7 winning numbers and 2 supplementary numbers. It is quite difficult to win in any prize pool in this game, so the jackpots are similar to Powerball in how high easily the rise. There are seven prize divisions, but even the lowest requires 4 numbers - 3 winning numbers and one of the supplementary numbers.

Please use our online entry facilities if you are interested in entering an Australian lottery.
