Lotteries

Lotteries are found and present all over the world in various types and forms. Each country has its own background and details of lottery games. In Australia for example, lottery games have started way back in the history of the country. Nowadays there are a lot of lotto games held in different Australian states. Some lotteries are held on a particular time or season while some lotteries are held all year round. The trend of lottery in Australia is such that when one state pioneers one lottery game, that stat’s example would be followed by the rest of the states in the country.

Back in the 1880s when the first ever Australian lottery was inaugurated in New South Wales’ capital in Sydney. The first games mere merely sweepstakes draws that were privatly operated. This first lottery base in Sydney was then transferred to Queensland, then Tasmania and lastly Victoria. Although there were a number of times that the lottery base was transported to different places, it is in this modern age that the success of the lottery games is visible and obvious to the Australians.

There are lottery games in Australia that are operated by some known private groups and some are managed by the Australian government. One government-operated lottery game was the Golden Casket Art Union. This game was first played in 1916 and since then, the lottery’s proceeds or part of total ticket sales is known to be a source of fund for charitable projects and community developments. Regarded like a pioneer in the industry, this Golden Casket lottery paved the way and served as model for the other state lotteries of the present time.

As for the lottery games organized by private groups, one example would be soccer pools owned by private groups and institutions. These pool games are established and built during the 1970’s. One important event in the history of the pool lottery is in 1981 when different pools from Western Australia, South Australia, Northern Territory, ACT, Tasmania and Victoria were combined into a single prize pool, leaving only Queensland which chose to operate its specific lottery. In 1993, the National Lottery network was established as made possible by an agreement with the NSW lotto.

Among all types and forms of lottery games in Australia, there is one most popular game participated in by the Australian citizens due to its high amounts of pay outs. However, this game, the Superdraw is not a year round lottery game, instead there are only specific seasons that this game is held and organized.

Comparable to a regular lotto game is the Superdraw, but the prize offered in this game is considerably higher. There are four divisions of prizes in Superdraw to determine if the player has won. Division 1 is when all the player’s chosen number sets match all 6 drawn numbers. Division 2 is when one set matches the 5 winning numbers with one supplementary number. Division 3, when only one set matches 5 winning figures and Division 4 for one number set to match 4 of the drawn numbers.
