Wednesday Lotto Guide
Winning the Wednesday Lotto is not just determined by luck. Learning the basic aspects of the game gives players an advantage in betting thus reducing the costs needed to win in every Division. This Wednesday Lotto Guide covers the rules of the game and the available options for picking the winning numbers.
The Wednesday Lottery gives a guaranteed prize of $1 million for the person who is able to get all 6 winning numbers for the week. There are 8 balls drawn - the first six is for the winning numbers while the last two are for supplementary numbers which are used for determining the winners of the other prizes. A total of five divisions cover the Wednesday Lottery, each with its own winning number combination. Players can join the lottery in various ways. They can play the Standard mode wherein they place bets on six numbers. They could also use Autopick which lets a computer randomly select digits for them.
To increase the winning percentage, players can opt to choose a System entry. This allows players to select more than 6 numbers for their weekly bets. Up to 18 numbers can be chosen using this method. However, the costs for betting for the System entries vary. This is due to the significant reduction of the odds in winning the week's top prize. If there are no winners for the Wednesday draw, the Division 1 prize is added to the jackpot of the coming Monday draw.
This Wednesday Lotto Guide would also like to let players know about two other options available for betting. The first one is called Double Up and it allows a winner of Divisions 2 - 5 to get twice the amount of the total prize. And then there is also the Lottery Strike game wherein players must predict the correct order of the first four numbers in the week's Lotto draw.
When Can I Play Wednesday Lotto?
Played every Wednesday, this lotto is identical to the Monday and Saturday lotteries. Wednesday Lotto's time of the draw depends on the state lottery.
- For NSW Lotteries and its resellers, the draw happens at 8:30pm (AEDT).
- For Tattersalls, the draw is at 7:30pm, but the results are generally available by 9:00pm (AEST)
To be sure, check your lottery ticket to see when your game is drawn. Draw close times depend on the state lottery as well. For example:
- For Oz Lotteries, an NSW Lotteries reseller, draw close time is at 6:30pm (AEDT).
- For Tattersalls, entries close at 7:30pm.
Ask your state lottery about your area's draw close time.
How to Play Wednesday Lotto
Here's what you need to do to play:
- Buy a ticket.
- You can then either select your own numbers (regular and supplementary) or ask the retailer/website for randomly generated ones.
- There are three ways you can play Wednesday Lotto:
- ?Playing a standard game is done by selecting six regular numbers and two "supplementary" numbers from a selection numbered 1 to 45. Eight will be randomly selected by the lottery company. If your numbers match the ones selected by the lottery company, you win the game.
- You can also try playing multi-week entries for other days of the week, using the same numbers for several weeks at a time.
- A "systems entry" lets you choose more numbers per game. Since you choose more numbers, your chances of winning increases.

History
Wednesday Lotto was introduced by New South Wales Lotteries in New South Wales (NSW) as a mid-week lotto on Wednesday, November 21, 1984. Monday and Wednesday Lotto were the only lotto games played in NSW until Oz Lotto began in 1994. Tattersall's started selling Monday and Wednesday Lotto in its territories on October 13, 2008. Queensland state lottery Golden Casket doesn't participate in Wednesday Lotto. Like Monday Lotto, Wednesday Lotto was originally a 40-ball lottery, but underwent several changes through the years. Starting April 2004, Monday and Wednesday Lotto have been like Saturday Lotto where six regular numbers and two "supplementary" numbers are selected as winners from a pool of 45 balls.
Fun Fact
Wednesday Lotto used to be held on Thursday from 1989 to 1996 and only returned to Wednesday because of Powerball's arrival.
